Submission advocating for a Government supported natural disaster insurance scheme
The Parliamentary Inquiry announced in 2023 was aimed primarily at insurers’ responses to 2022 major floods claims. This submission responds to three only of the terms of reference, which are
- Affordability of insurance coverage to policyholders.
- The different types of insurance contracts offered by insurers.
- Accessibility and affordability of hydrology reports to policyholders.
The submission puts forward five propositions concerning the provision of insurance against adverse weather events. The most significant is on affordability and advocates for a Government supported natural disaster insurance scheme.
